The heat is on

Fergus McReynolds explores the furore surrounding bioenergy and renewable heat, looking at two examples of successful projects which have seen renewable energy adapted for use in UK homes. Bioenergy has a 'crucial role' to play at all levels and will be key to meeting the UK's 2020 and 2050 greenhouse gas reduction targets. This was the message of climate change and decentralised energy Minister, Greg Barker, at last month's Renewable Energy Associations Conference. The Minister said that bioenergy was the "single most important renewable energy resource" in the UK. He went on to add the caveat that there was no "silver bullet", but that bioenergy's potential to produce peak load and base load power put it ahead of the pack.
