Wind turbine success blows away staff at Dewlay

Operation of a long-awaited and much anticipated wind turbine at Lancastrian cheesemaker Dewlay's production site has officially commenced. A visit from the Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change, Charles Hendry MP, marked the event, which was the culmination of two years' hard work and makes Dewlay one of the first cheesemakers in the UK to be powered by wind energy. The 126 metre turbine was installed by renewable energy company Wind Direct at the rear of Dewlay's 18 acre site in Garstang. Around 2,992 tonnes worth of carbon emissions are likely to be saved each year by switching to the energy it produces. Speaking at the launch on 5 November, Dewlay's Operations Director, Nick Kenyon, said: "We are delighted to welcome Charles Hendry to Garstang and are privileged that he is keen to find out more about our operation.
