Warfare in 2040 will be hyper-accelerated. If you move - if you emit any signal anywhere along the electromagnetic spectrum without being hidden - you will be detected in real-time: you will be located precisely and targeted; you will be killed. Networked smart munitions are becoming increasingly intelligent. Such weapons, operating alongside non-kinetic effectors, such as cyberwarfare and EW, will be linked to a multi-domain sensor network, enabled by artificial intelligence (AI) and its subsets, machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL). ML allows the Al to improve automatically through experience; DL imitates the workings of the human brain in processing data and creating patterns for use in decision-making. These constructs, hereafter referred to simply as AI, will operate as a 'neural network,' forming a 'brilliant fires' system that will deliver extraordinarily accurate, extremely long-range and exceptionally lethal effects in real time.
