MT: As NATO commemorates its 70th anniversary, how important is the Atlantic Alliance as a customer for Diehl Defence? C. Gunther: For decades, Diehl has had a trusted, cooperative relationship with the armed forces and institutions of the transatlantic defence organisation. As early as the 1960s, we set up a second production line for the SIDEWINDER air-to-air guided missile in Germany. Here we manufactured the guidance and control section of this standard weapon for fighter aircraft of the European NATO partners. Since 2005, we have delivered the in-house developed IRIS-T successor missile to NATO and other countries. Today, most of our exports go to NATO members.
