The Evolution of Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) Training

Training an individual to deal with an IED is by definition instructing the individual to deal with the unknown. Even with modern aids and equipment the exact make-up of the device will probably be concealed until successfully rendered safe.rnUp until the late 1960's lEDs were generally dealt with by brave, yet for the most part, self-trained individuals from predominantly military and police organisations, whose common sense, experience and threat assessment techniques reduced risk, both to themselves and to the public at large. Over time however, through lessons learned from both successful and unsuccessful procedures, IEDD doctrine evolved and with it the resources to deal effectively with IEDs.
