Some stories endure despite or perhaps because they are shrouded in myth. The Battle of the Little Big Horn has yet to reveal all of the secrets of the confrontation in June of 1876 between Lakota Sioux warriors and the U.S. 7th Cavalry. Nathan Philbrick's The Last Stand sheds more light on the episode but is unlikely to resolve the debate over the battle because, as Philbrick admits, Michael Elliott's Custerology "deeply influenced my own thinking about (the battle)."
