With the end of the year just around the corner, now is the time to start thinking about your 2009 income tax return. If you're looking to decrease your tax burden for this year, you'll likely need to evaluate potential deductions and credits before Dec. 31. Ron Knipping, managing partner with Rehm-ann, a CPA and business consulting firm based in Saginaw, Mich., says you should meet with your accountant as soon as possible. "Because of all the complexities of tax credits and so much in the tax code being poorly written, most people under-utilize the available tax credits," he says.
