Modern fabrics used for combat uniforms combine the best attributes of sportswear (light weight, abrasion resistance, breath-ability and quick drying) with fire-resistant characteristics developed for use by racing car drivers, fire-fighters, oil workers and similar professions exposed to the hazards of sudden, intense flash fires. Single-colour olive drab or khaki uniforms have been largely replaced over the past two decades with various computer-designed digital camouflage patterns.
