The Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic (AFSR) comprise three core elements: the Land Forces, the Air Force, and the Training and Support Force. There is also a 2,550-strong Central Staff, which controls the activity of the AFSR. Conscription was abolished when the armed forces became fully professionalized on January 1, 2007.
