The president is the commander in chief of the armed forces. Day-to-day decisions are made by the minister of defense.Very little reliable information regarding the Ivory Coast armed forces is available. Shortly after dealing with the 2010 election aftermath, plans were announced in August 2011 to disarm and demobilize previous fighters of the National Armed Forces of Ivory Coast, or FANCI. During this time, the force was renamed the Republican Forces of Ivory Coast, known by its French acronym FRCI. Since then, some FRCI operational units have been formally established, but no known coherent force. FRCI comprises personnel from both sides of the previous conflict.
