Despite recent declines, defense spending in Latin America is projected to have a CAGR of 4 percent between 2017 and 2021, reaching a height of $68 billion in 2021. During that time, defense spending in the region will total $315.7 billion.The top five defense markets in 2017 are Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, and Cuba. Combined, the countries spent $49.1 billion on defense, accounting for 82.8 percent of the regional total. Spending in those five countries increased 9.4 percent from 2016 figures, driven largely by increases in Brazil. Given the economic and political problems facing that country, defense spending is expected to stabilize going forward. Between 2017 and 2021, those top five countries will spend $260.6 billion on defense.
