Some Advances Aid Both Commercial and Military Designs

THE GAP BETWEEN what's commercial and what's military electronics is no longer so wide. At one time, radar simply meant military. Radar, an acronym for radio-based detection and ranging, was developed during the 1930s and put to work during World War II, and has been part of the battlefield in many shapes, ways, and forms ever since. But radar can do much more than detect enemy targets. It has been part of weather forecasting since the late 1980s, and will soon be considered standard equipment in advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) as part of vehicular electronic safety systems.
