Established in 1960 as an exporter of wicker furniture, Expormim has devoted much effort in recent years, with able aid from designers such as Jaime Hayon and Lievore Altherr Molina, to proving that humble but resilient rattan can not only be elevated in itself but also play well with other materials. A case in point is Mario Ruiz's Huma armchair. The original, released in 2015, has proved so versatile and successful that it has sparked six new versions, launched at the Orgatec fair this past October. To allow Huma to transition with ease between corporate and residential settings, the distinctive rattan backrest-with its flexible ribs that provide great support and comfort-can now be combined with steel or beech-wood legs, or a swivel base. Alternatively, for a more conventional swivel chair, its shape can be replicated in steel and polyurethane foam.
