Silver mine production rose 2.5% in 2008: Silver Institute

New York—Mine production of silver rose to 680.9 millionnoz in 2008 from 664.2 million oz in 2007, according tonWorld Silver Survey 2009, released last week by the SilvernInstitute. Silver recycled from scrap declined to 176.6 millionnoz from 181.9 million oz in the same periods, respectively.nIn analyzing silver price trends, the report pointed outnthat in real terms silver price gains last year “werenimpressive, with a return to 1984 necessary to find a highernannual average, although the rest of the early 1980s andnmuch of the 1970s saw higher real prices.”
