In the beginning... there were two-dimensional design and liquid coatings. These two basic facts have remained almost unchanged since the earliest days of the automotive industry. From this perspective, the introduction of spray guns and oven-cured coatings have been the most significant advances from the brushed lacquer left to dry in the sun in the first part of this century. Almost all other changes have been incremental improvements on what came before.
