Why You Should Buy a Surface Finishing Job Shop

This column is dedicated to those job shop owner/managers and professional managers that have made the decision to stay in business despite the depressed business conditions caused by the cessation of their manufacturer customers' operations due to the Chinese economic Tsunami (or other low-labor-cost countries). Let us hope that these managers' decisions were not based on the following emotional considerations: 1. This family business has been in existence for many years and is still (barely) supporting many family members. I don't want to be the one responsible for shutting it down. 2. Business will improve—it always has in the past. 3. I will pick up the customers of the shops that are going out of business. I will be a survivor. 4. I will lower my prices below cost to compete with the foreign imports. 5. I will reduce expenses, stop drawing a salary, and cut everyone's compensation. 6. I have always been a survivor, and I will be one this time.
