Environmental regulation will continue to reduce VOC and HAP emissions from paint systems. The large capital cost of a control system, such as a thermal oxidizer, strongly encourages the use of a compliant coating and continued research has led to improvement of the basic paint resins. A wide variety of compliant coatings are now available that compare favorably with the performance of higher VOC and HAP paint. Improvements of paint quality, operating cost and workplace environment can also realized. Converting an existing system to a new coating requires a team approach involving your paint and chemical suppliers as well as a systems house or consultant to help with an in-depth evaluation of the equipment changes needed to integrate the coating and develop an implementation plan to make the changes. Thorough evaluation, testing and planning are the key elements to realizing the benefits of converting to a compliant coating.
