Challenges in Predicting Adhesive Service Life Via Accelerated Testing

Predicting the service life of adhe-sives is a risky business. The most difficult problem ever put to an adhesive consultant is: "How long will this adhesive joint last?" It is desirable to know the rate at which an adhesive bond will lose strength due to environmental factors while in service. Time and economics generally allow only short-term tests to verify the selection of the adhesive system relative to the environment. Strength values determined by short-term tests do not give an adequate indication of an adhesive's performance during continuous environmental exposure.
