Observations on Being the Owner/Manager of a Job Shop

Job shops are dominated by family ownership and management. The management techniques vary from the simplest dictatorial approach in the smaller companies to the highest level of sophisticated organization in the largest companies. Currently, most are being heavily impacted by competition from foreign sources, in addition to the severe economic recessions being experienced both domestically and globally. The job shops that will survive are those that have superior management, competent marketing, innovative techniques, and financial reserves.
