SELECTION OF UV LAMP SYSTEMS FOR UV-CURABLE COATINGS

An increasing variety of UV curing equipment is available to cure the inks, coatings, and adhesives that are being used in a never-widening array of applications. Before presenting information on important recent developments in UV equipment, such as high-output reflectors, cool UV, single wavelength lamps, and switching power supplies, a review of the standard features of UV systems is presented. The UV system consists of the lamp, lamp housing and reflector, power supply, and operator interface. Medium-pressure mercury vapor and metal halide lamps are used almost exclusively. Two types are available — electrode and electrodeless. This paper will focus on electrode lamps and associated equipment.
