Type II Anodizing Operations: Test Results Hold Promise for Alternatives to Dichromate Sealer

All of the sealers passed quality, coating thickness, and coating weight testing. However, the three baselines showed marginal to complete failures for both corrosion resistance and wet tape adhesion. Boiling water sealed and unsealed baseline specimens failed corrosion resistance on 2024-T3 Al alloys, and the sodium dichromate sealer baseline specimen failed corrosion resistance on 6061-T6 Al alloy specimens. All three of the baselines passed wet tape adhesion testing on all alloys for Primer 1, but had various failures on Primer 2.
