In one bold move, Mittal Steel's bid for Arcelor has transformed the way the global steel industry is viewed, even in regions such as Southeast Asia where the two companies have only a limited presence. Steel industries in the region certainly have the opportunity to grow - producers in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam are dwarfed when compared with their counterparts in the rest of the world.
