Vale sets out to buy copper mines in Zambia and DRC to hit 1m tpy target

Vale has been evaluating "opportunistic acquisitions" of assets in both Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) that could helpthe minerto reach its target of 1 million tpy production capacity for copper by 2015.Such acquisitions, together with projects being developed in Brazil's northern region of Carajas, might mean the company could achieve some 300,000 tpy of copper production in the near future, the company's executive officer of exploration, energyand projects, EduardoJorge Ledsham,told MB in a press meeting in Sao Paulo city.
