Fancy yams are now an essential feature of modern fashion - applications range from home textiles to upholstery fabrics up to stylish fabrics for the garment industry. Unlimited design possibilities are offered by the effect yarn systems of Rieter for ring-, compact- and rotor spinning. When industrial yarn manufacturing began, spinning machines produced these irregularities inadvertently - as defects, so to speak. They gave the yarn an individual, irregular character, resembling the appearance of a linen fabric. The modern generation of spinning machines produces very uniform yarns. This "smooth" yarn is simply unwanted for many areas of application, since it is devoid of individual character. Effects are therefore deliberately produced for specific applications to imitate the inadvertent defects from earlier days.
