A Cap of Horror is a thoughtfully presented collection of poems written by 17 female nurses during World War I. The poems have been translated into Dutch by Leo van Bergen, and the book has two covers: flip the book over to read the Dutch version, and vice versa. Dr van Bergen made the selection and has written one of the three introductions. The others are by Margo van Mol, Dutch intensive care nurse and psychologist, and Sophie De Schaepdrijver, Professor of Modern European History. The poems have been grouped into themes, and the book concludes with short biographies of what is known about each poet, some more well-known than others. Haunting and beautiful full-page charcoal and pencil drawings by Irma Jansen are included between the poems, adding to their atmosphere.
