The recruitment of children by the UK armed forces: a critique from health professionals

Each year one-fifth of the UK Army's recruits are under 18, and therefore, children. The UK is the only country in Europe and only Security Council permanent member to recruit 16-year-olds. But in a 2014 nationwide poll, 77% of respondents said that the minimum age for joining the Army should be 18, and human rights groups, children's organizations, many faith groups, MPs and veterans all support this.
