A group of residents from the small town of Tecoma in Victoria, Australia, staged a flash mob at Knox City Shopping Centre food court to protest the construction of a McDonald's in their town. The "No Maccas Flash Mob" featured a group of singers that sang a rendition of "Do You Hear the People Sing?" from Les Miserables that was adapted to tell the tale of the ongoing battle with the restaurant chain. The adapted lyrics included the lines, "Tear down the golden arches and restore democracy... to fight for our forest, our children, our community..." Protestors say the proposed McDonald's will be located too close to a kindergarten, primary school and national park, and it will hurt local businesses.
