Sean Connolly took the helm of Conagra Brands, Inc., as president and chief executive officer in 2015. His stated goal at the time was to transform the company into a pure play branded food company within three years. In 2018, following a series of divestments, efforts to improve the Chicago-based company's innovation pipeline and change its culture, Mr. Connolly said Conagra had, for the most part, accomplished his goal, and he set about growing Conagra's portfolio and capabilities. The most dramatic move under Mr. Connolly's leadership came in June when Conagra Brands announced plans to acquire Pinnacle Foods, Inc., Parsippany, N.J., for approximately $10.9 billion. Pinnacle Foods' portfolio features a variety of well-known brands, including Birds Eye, Mrs. Paul's, Hungry-Man, Duncan Hines, Log Cabin, Wish-Bone, Udi's and many others. In addition to adding scale to Conagra's presence in the center of the retail store, the acquisition will make the company the No. 2 player in the United States in frozen foods.
