Adsorption of silver ions using an ethoxycarbonyl thiourea chelating resin

A polystyrene-modified ethoxycarbonyl thiourea resin PSETU was prepared and applied toadsorption of silver ions. In the batch adsorption experiments, its adsorption capacities for silverions improve with the enhancement of adsorption temperature, contact time and initialconcentrations of silver ions. The adsorption isotherm was examined by the Langmuir isothermand the Freundlich isotherm. PSETU shows higher affinity to silver ions over base metal ions,indicating that it has good selectivity for silver ions. The coordination mechanism of PSETU withsilver ions was also confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis.
