Nanocrystalline MgAl_2O_4 is synthesized by citrate sol-gel process, which is characterized by high-temperature X-ray diffraction (HT-XRD), differential thermal analysis coupled with thermogravimetric (TG-DTA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The precursor gel yields an amorphous oxide phase at 550 deg C and begins to crystallize to the MgAl_2O_4 at 600 deg C. The isoelectric point (IEP) of nanocrystalline MgAl_2O_4 is about pH 11.8.
