Solid solution Co-50Ni nanometric crystals were obtained by a modified polyol method, which mainly consists of a solid state mixing of PVP (polyvinylpirrolidone) with stoichiometric amounts of Ni(NO_3)_2·6H_2O and Ni(NO_3)_2·6H_2O , followed by dissolution in ethylene glycol. Co-50Ni nanocrystals were characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It was found that the lattice parameter of the solid solution nanomaterial was intermediate between pure Ni and pure Co. In addition, that spherical morphology of the nanocrystals shifted to elongated shapes when they were grown under the action of an electromagnetic field.
