Irradiated MnS nanostructures: Surface wettability and photoluminescence properties

Manganese sulfide nanostructures with various dimensions were obtained by irradiating electrode-posited thin films. The irradiation dose could be used to control the diameter of the electrodeposited nanostructures within the range of nanometer scale. This study reports the effect of irradiation of 7 MeV electron beam on the surface wettability and optical properties of MnS nanostructured thin films. The photoluminescence intensity was found to increase with increase in the absorbed dose from 10 to 50 kGy. The fluence of the electron beam was 2 × 10~(13) electrons/cm~2. The crystal size was found to decrease upon electron beam irradiation and the materials exhibit poor crystallization. Similar results were also observed in the X-ray diffraction studies, where peak intensity decreased upon electron beam irradiation.
