Influence of partial cycling on the transformation mass of NiTi alloys

摘要

The effect of partial cycling on the martensitic transformation of NiTi alloys were studied in the paper. If the reverse transformation of NiTi alloys is arrested at a certain temperature, and then partially cycled for several times, a progressive increase in the transformation martensite mass below this temperature is observed. The effect of this so-called "hammer procedure" in NiTi alloys is different from that in copper-based shape memory alloys. This result suggests that elastic energy might not be a main reason for the phenomenon. The phenomenon is thought to be closely related with the well-known fact that transformation temperatures decrease with thermal cycling in NiTi alloys.
