For the first time we studied the grain growth process, taking into consideration the energy and mobility of triple junction lines. The study was carried out by numerical simulation on polycrystals with the initial grain size ranging from 0.017 to 12.8 μm. We found that, at grain sizes smaller than ~1 μm, triple junctions slow down grain growth when compared with the case where they are not taken into consideration. We also found that, at these sizes, the growth kinetics deviates from the parabolic. The deviations increase with a reduction in the initial grain size. The possibility of grain growth suppression in nanomaterials is discussed.
