High strength in layered metal composites obtained by high-pressure torsion

摘要

As a result of joint HPT-deformation (5 turns) of three-layer sandwiches: steel/copper/steel, steel/vanadium alloy/steel, and vanadium alloy/zirconium alloy/vanadium alloy, the 20 mm diameter layered composite samples were obtained. SEM analysis was used to study the cross-section sample structure. Microhardness measurements and tensile tests were used for comparative analysis of the mechanical properties of composites with different types of structure. It is shown that the layered composites obtained by HPT with subsequent annealing, in comparison with their components, are characterized by extremely high strength with a small margin of plasticity.
