Structural and Electrical Properties of Cobalt Substituted Copper Ferrites Synthesized by Sol-Gel Autocombustion Method

Nanoparticles of cobalt substituted copper ferrites Cu_(1) _(–x) Co _(x) Fe_(2)O_(4) (where x = 0.0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.0) were synthesized by simple sol–gel autocombustion method. The prepared materials were characterizedby different techniques such as TGA/DTA, XRD, EDS, SEM, TEM and IR etc. The TGA/DTA studies shows the phase formation temperature at 425 °C. The formation of single cubic spinel struture with average cryastallite size 22 nm was observed by XRD study. Elemental analysis carried by EDS techniqueshows the purity of the sample without any impurity. Surface morphological studies carried by SEM indicates fibrils structures. TEM investigation shows average 20 nm particle size. D.C. electrical resistivity study reveals semiconducting behavior of entire sample. Two strong absorption bandsat tetrahedral and octahedral sites were observed by IR spectroscopic study.
