It is possible, I suppose, that these characteristics of the Australian trade and shipping context might be seen to underline the theme of supply chain and freight systems integration and the advantages of achieving integrated systems; then again, it is easily argued that the effective integration of modal systems and of the supply chains that link sellers and buyers at any scale and in any spatial context are among the most critical challenges for business, and perhaps also, for academe.
