So far the economic crisis does not affect the port of Rotterdam yet, but the port authority is slightly worried about the future. On presenting the six months results of 2011 - a meagre 1% rise in throughput till 215 million tonnes - Rotterdam Port Authority CEO Hans Smits expressed his worries about the declining economic growth in Germany, which determines Rotterdam's throughput. He added that Rotterdam, being the largest European port, is in need of an integral financial policy in Europe. "The Lisbon Strategy should be followed up by an execution agenda, as policy for the sake of policymaking is not effective."
