On the 21st of January the 30,000m3 trailing suction hopper dredger Congo River was launched at the IHC Offshore & Marine yard in Krimpen aan den IJssel, the Netherlands. This new generation 'plus mega' trailer will be the new flagship of the Belgium DEME Group. The Congo River is an innovative and multifunctional ship, which is very manoeuvrable because of its large beam (38 m) and short length (168 m) and capable of deployment for many different purposes. Even fully loaded, this new dredger will have a limited draught of only 12 m. The vessel is ideal for operations in ports, entrance and navigation channels, beach nourishment, all types of land reclamation, whilst also very suitable for long-distance transport. With its deep-suction installation this vessel can dredge down to depths of over 100 metres.
