Alewijnse contributes to LNG GreenStream Tanker

January 2013 sees Alewijnse working on its first LNG-powered vessel, the LNG GreenStream Tanker currently in build at Peters Shipyards. As systems integrator Alewijnse is responsible for the installation and integration of four LNG gensets by Sandfirden. These will generate 285 kW each and will feed the two propulsion engines as well as the associated electrical infrastructure. At the heart of the system lies a special DC bus designed by Alewijnse. This DC-bus is supplied by two generators through an AC/DC converter. With this configuration, synchronising the generators is not necessary and so they feed the bus immediately after start up, even before they reach their nominal speed.
