More effort to reduce sewer overflows to Puget Sound

Increased efforts are to be made to protect Puget Sound from wastewater overflows during severe rainstorms. The City of Seattle and King County have agreed, according to compliance orders issued by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to address violations of the two governments' federal Clean Water Act waste-water discharge permits. The EPA are requiring the authorities to take steps to reduce the volume and frequency of overflows and to ensure that the treatment plants are doing their best to reduce the amount of untreated wastewater entering Puget Sound waters.
