The recent keel-laying ceremony for the USS San Antonio (the first of the LPD 17 das; of amphibious assault) at Litton Avondale marked a significant milestone for technology projected to save more than $4 billion over the ship's life cycle. The Avondale Alliance, which includes prime contractor Litton Avon-dale, Intergraph Corporation, General Dynamics/Bath Iron Works and Raytheon Corporation, is a partnership assembled to design, build and maintain a powerful amphibious assault platform while reducing the U.S. Navy's total cost of ownership. Intergraph is the information technology partner.
