Rework is a bugaboo for shipbuilders. Lost production time from rework can quickly turn a profitable shipbuilding contract into a loss-making, manhour-eating nightmare. That's why one of the world's leading shipbuilders isn't resting on its laurels. In an effort to fine tune its shipbuilding production, Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has changed manufacturing systems, installed new production lines and robots, and adopted new planning and scheduling systems.
