COATINGS: CUTTING YOUR CARBON

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change concluded last month in Copenhagen, Denmark, providing little guidance in the "Copenhagen Accord" for further reducing CO_2 emissions from international shipping. Much talk prior to the convention had centered around the possibility of some direction in regard to Emissions Trading or a possible bunker fuel levy. For now, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will have to forge ahead without a legally binding instrument and build on the technical, operational and economic measures it has developed to help international shipping further reduce its CO_2 emissions.
