GE Aviation announced that it would leverage the technology and proven performance of its GE38 engine for marine applications. The aviation model of the GE38 is considered to be the most technologically advanced turboshaft engine of its class, providing 57% more power and 18% better fuel consumption. The marine version of the engine will be identical to its aircraft counterpart. The only difference will be in the control schedules in the Full Authority Digital Engine Controls (FADEC) software. Testing is already underway on the marine version, with the engine establishing 7.500 shaft horsepower.
