It's a story you've heard countless times before. An oversupply of tonnage in the market driven by an influx of new-builds is weakening tanker freight rates this year. On an equal weighted average, respected brokerage and research consulting firm McQuilling Partners, Inc. notes that Time Charter Equivalents (TCEs) declined about 70% in the first four months of the year as compared to the same period in 2017.
