Increasingly tight legislation on pollution has led to a resurgence of interest in water-lubricated sterntube systems. The proposition is that with a water-lubricated system a vessel does not have to be taken out of service simply because of a leaking sterntube. The higher the earning capacity of the vessel and the greater the risk of delays in dock availability due to size or location, the more attractive seems the idea offitting water lubricated sterntubes.
