Unique water-cooled AC drive offers space and noise benefits

A near 50% reduction in the footprint of marine drives has been achieved by ABB, using water-cooling technology. The new ACS 600 MarineDrive W, rated from 630kW up to 4300kW in the low voltage range 525V to 690V ac, uses a fresh water-cooling design, as opposed to air-cooling. This offers effective and easy heat transfer and reduces the need for high-powered air-conditioning systems in the control room, thereby saving installation costs and releasing valuable deck space for other purposes.
