The proliferation of imitation parts is an issue that has long vexed the minds — and margins — of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). While some have suggested the 'piracy card' is sometimes played by those unwilling to contend with the harsh realities of globalisation, an increasing body of evidence indicates that part-piracy is one of the key challenges facing the industry today.
