Mercy ships, the international charity that provides free medical and humanitarian services in the poorest countries of the world, is celebrating its 30th year. The charity has been providing life saving surgeries to thousands of people since 1978, alleviating suffering from painful deformities, injuries and tumours. The surgeries have not only saved lives but have saved thousands of people from being outcast by their communities. Over the last 30 years, Mercy Ships has worked in over 70 countries providing services valued at more than £350M. The charity has treated more than 230 000 people in village medical clinics, performed more than 35 000 surgeries, 190 000 dental treatments and completed over 950 construction and agricultural projects, including schools, clinics, orphanages and water wells.
